Tie Back Sub

The Tie Back Sub (TBS) is a tool assembly used to tie back into an existing Hydraulic Retrievable Hanger (HRH) or a Hydraulic Non-Retrievable Hanger (HNH) that has been previously set down hole. The TBS is used to seal off a breach that exists on the existing hanger. The TBS will be installed to the inside diameter or outside diameter (depending on the application) of the existing breached hanger’s mandrel.  The TBS will typically be attached to the bottom of another replacement hanger assembly.  After the TBS is attached, the additional hanger would be set and released to contain the breach

When an internal TBS is to be installed inside the breached hanger, it will consist of a stinger containing an external seal assembly and catch ring.  When the TBS is installed and reaches the no-go position, the assembly is complete.  The catch ring will latch to the existing hanger’s inside profile to avoid detachment while maintaining a seal.

When installing an external TBS, the tool will consist of an overshot mandrel.  This overshot will consist of an internal seal assembly and catch ring. When the TBS is installed and reaches the no-go position, the assembly is complete.  The catch ring will latch to the existing hanger’s outside profile to avoid detachment while maintaining a seal.

The Tie Back Sub (TBS-HP) is a tieback designed specifically for use on the High Pressure Hydraulic Retrievable Hanger (HRH-HP).  It will be installed to the outside of the top of the HRH-HP Mandrel.  Before the TBS-HP can be installed, the Safety Sub attached to the top of the HRH-HP mandrel must be removed using a Mechanical Obtain Tool (MOT).  The TBS-HP will consist of an internal seal assembly and ratchet ring. When the TBS is installed over the hanger and reaches the no-go position, the assembly is complete.  The ratchet ring will latch to the existing hanger’s outside ratchet thread to avoid detachment while maintaining a seal.  A tensile load can be applied to ensure a good connect has been achieved.

APPLICATION:

  • To Tie Back into an existing HRH, HNH, or HRH-HP hanger.
  • Horizontal or vertical set hangers.
  • Thermal of conventional wells.
  • Internal or external tie back systems.

FEATURES:

  • External Tie Back will not restrict any existing inside dimensions.
  • Can be installed during the same trip when setting additional hanger.
  • Upper connection matches existing casing sizes.

BENEFITS:

  • Economical.
  • No hydraulics required.  Mechanical set.
